Information about the 'heroes' of Pokémon; the little twerps that constantly get in the way of Team Rocket's objectives.

Ash Ketchum

Ash's dream is to become the world's greatest Pokémon Master. Aged 10 years old, he finally reached the day he could go off from his hometown of Pallet, on his journey to the Pokémon League... and he overslept. Too late to get a Charmander, Bulbasaur or a Squirtle, Ash was left with a common little Pikachu who refused any order given to her from Ash.

After time, Ash and his Pikachu bonded and became the best of friends, along the way picking up other Pokémon. Ash learned that what he had was no ordinary Pikachu, and he was very lucky to get the one he did.

Ash is guided by Professor Oak of Pallet Town, and of course his mom. His biggest rival is Gary, who set off at the same time as him but is always seemingly one step ahead. But Ash has a special gift when it comes to caring for Pokémon, a gift that no other trainer seems to have.

Pikachu

Pikachu is Ash's best friend, and most talented Pokémon. At first, she was unwilling to join him and Ash had to try hard to gain her trust (and yes, it is common misconception that Pikachu is male, when she is indeed female).

Pikachu uses her great speed and Thunderbolts to beat opponents, but also has a good heart and would do anything to save Ash and his friends. Pikachu travels around with Ash and co. outside of her Pokéball. She hates being cramped inside, and much prefers to travel on foot (or be carried by Ash on his shoulder or in his arms).

This Pikachu is a very rare, special Pikachu. She displays great power, and is able to overcome the most difficult battles almost every time, and that is why Team Rocket want it for themselves. It was made their prime directive to go out and capture that Pikachu and bring it home to the boss.

Misty

Misty joined Ash and Pikachu on their journey because Ash stole her bike (in order to get his injured Pikachu to the Pokémon Center in time) and then it was destroyed, so she claimed she was following him until he replaced it. However, as time passed they became friends (well, sort of anyway) and help each other on the way to the Pokémon League.

Misty must also be about 10 years old, and is from Cerulean City, where her three vain sisters own and run a water-Pokémon Gym (she has never got along with them). She specialises in water Pokémon, but has a tendency to think most types of Pokémon are cute apart from the really ugly or evil ones. Being the 'typical girl', Misty displays interests in perfume, fashion and all other girlie things. The question is, does she secretly have a crush on Ash?

Brock

Brock comes from a large family in Pewter City. His father left when he was young to go out and become a Pokémon trainer, leaving Brock to care for all his younger brothers and sisters as well as being the leader of the Pewter City Gym. He joined Ash and Pikachu (with Misty not far behind) when Ash battled him and won, with help from Brock's father who had secretly been watching him and his family. They made up, and Brock agreed he would go and follow his dream of becoming a Pokémon trainer.

Further on, we learned that Brock's real dream is to become a Pokémon breeder rather than a trainer. He works hard on learning about Pokémon nutrition, and he makes up the food for the Pokémon on their journey.

Brock (who's age is undisclosed) thinks he's quite the ladies' man and is always on the look out for a girlfriend, or even a wife! Especially fond of all the Nurse Joys and Officer Jennys, and seems to be the only one who can tell all of the family members' apart from each set.

Brock decided to stay behind with Professor Ivy, and help look after the house and everything while the Professor worked hard, all the while learning more about being a successful Pokémon breeder.

Tracy

Tracy is the newest 'brat' of the pack. He is a Pokémon watcher, rather than a trainer or a breeder, and is obsessed with taking down facts and sketching all the Pokémon he comes across.

Ash and Misty met Tracy at the Orange Islands, strangely enough, not too long after they left Brock behind with Professor Ivy.

Not too much is known about this Pokémon watcher, however, what can be said is that he knows a great deal about Pokémon, looks up to Professor Oak, and he owns a Venonat and a new type of water Pokémon, which looks like a blue mouse with a ball-type tail which floats above water.

The Pokémon

Ash's Pokémon

Ash's main Pokémon are Charmander (Charmeleon and eventually Charizard), Bulbasaur, Squirtle, and Pidgeotto. He also had a Caterpie/Metapod/Butterfree until the Butterfree mating season arrived and he decided he wanted to leave the group to go with his mate. For a short time, Ash had a Primeape who he led to being the P1 Champion (in the fighting Pokémon tournament).

Misty's Pokémon

Misty specialises in water Pokémon. She has a Starmie, Staryu, Goldeen, Psyduck and Togepi. Since she 'caught' Psyduck, he has a tendecy to come out of his Pokéball on his own whenever she calls for one of the other Pokémon to come out. Togepi is too young to battle yet, and is carried around by Misty in its little egg shell.

Brock's Pokémon

Brock's speciality seemed to be rock Pokémon, but he takes pride in all types he manages to get his hands on. He uses Geodude a lot, as well as Onix and the cute (but dangerous:)) little Vulpix - the fox Pokémon with nine tails.
